Congratulations to our February Athlete the Month, Kelly Jones!

Kelly is a model mother, wife, friend and athlete. She has a ferocious work ethic and is part of the reason your coaches love that they do.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I was born and raised in southern California, Jeremiah and I met in San Clemente eight years ago and have been married for seven. We have three kids, Stella (5), Brady (3) and Grace (8m), we also have 4 dogs. We moved to Texas 3 years ago, I stay home with my kids and am currently working on getting my personal trainer certificate. I would love to get CrossFit certified to become a coach and hopefully own a CrossFit gym someday.
What are your hobbies and interests?
With 3 kids it’s hard to find time for hobbies but when I do have some time I like to do crafts, spend time with family and work out.
What is something we don’t know about you?
Something you don’t know about me is I love psychics and old cemeteries.
When did you start crossfit? Why?
We started in August last year, I lost some weight after having my son in the gym but I wanted more of a challenge. I saw the CrossFit games in 2015 I wanted to be strong like the women in the games, I love that it’s not about a number on the scale it’s about seeing what your body and mind are capable of doing.
Do you remember your first wod?
I do not remember my first wod but I know it had to do with running and I tried to keep up with Chris and Candice but I had to stop because I thought I was going to die.
What is your favorite/least favorite thing about CrossFit? (movement, wod, etc.)
My favorite things about CrossFit are definitely the people and reaching a goal, least favorite are wall balls and running.
How has CrossFit affected your life?
CrossFit has made me feel more confident in every aspect of life, I get excited at the end of the day to go in and joke with everyone, then get my ass handed to me and I love every minute.
What advice would you give a newbie?
I would say not to give up after you first start, there was definitely a time for me in the beginning where I felt like I wasn’t getting it and that I would never be able to do what everyone else is doing. I wanted to quit but Jeremiah talked me out of it and I am so happy he did because although I still can’t do everything everyone else can I can do a lot more than I did in the beginning and everyday that I go in I surprise myself a little more.
Tell us your most memorable moment/wod/etc. in CrossFit?
One of my most memorable moments is when I was maxing out, I would wiggle out of the lift because I was scared of the weight and nick told me I looked like a caterpillar falling down, after I finally got it up he said I looked like a moth.
Have you met any goals since starting CrossFit? What future goals do you have?
I actually ran a mile for the first time in my life with out stopping and doing box jumps was big for me. My next goals are to do a pull up and build upper body strength.
